Report: Sony Michel, Patriots Make Decision On Rookie Contract

Former Georgia running back Sony Michel made a bold move, and agreed to a rookie contract with the New England Patriots, as confirmed by several sources, including NFL Insider Ian Rapoport.

“The #Patriots have agreed to terms with first-round RB Sony Michel on his rookie contract in advance of rookies reporting, source said. He’s signing soon and just in time,” Rapoport tweeted.

The new contract came at the right timing. The Patriots’ rookies report for training camp comes on July 22. Good one, right?

The former Bulldog had a nice season in 2017, finishing with 1,227 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns. He averaged 7.9 yards a carry.

Michel is the 31st overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Former Georgia offensive tackle Isaiah Wynn will also join the Patriots this season. What a team!

He was a productive rusher with 3,613 yards on the ground in the past four seasons at Georgia. He was also a brilliant receiver, tallying 64 receptions for 621 yards and 6 touchdowns.

“Reminds me of Alvin Kamara. He’s a violent runner, yet he’s a make-you-miss guy. He’s more powerful than people think. I think with the ball in his hands, he’s as talented as Kamara. I don’t think he’s quite as advanced in the passing game, but he’s got an opportunity with Tom Brady in that offense to be special early,” NFL Network’s Mike Mayock said.

If you take a closer look at the Patriots’ roster, you’d see that Michel will cope well with the organization. He’s the team’s most well-rounded back.

We’re looking forward to the new season. Michel will contribute to the Pats’ game, as he has shown excellent results so far. Let’s see what happens once the season starts. He may be a new name in the team, but his talent and skills are more like an old school power.
