Patriots Training Camp Day 2 Recap: Marcus Cannon Leaves With Apparent Injury

Though the team wasn’t wearing full pads yet, there was still plenty to watch on the second day of Patriots training camp.

While several Patriots have returned from injury, starting right tackle Marcus Cannon exited Friday’s session. With an apparent injury, he was spotted leaving the field with trainer Jim Whalen.

Cannon missed the second half of last season due to an ankle injury and was limited during organized team activities and minicamp. LaAdrian Waddle took Cannon’s spot on the first-team offense.

Mike Reiss, NFL Nation reporter covering the New England Patriots, wrote that Cannon’s injury wasn’t a “long-term concern.”

Wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell on the other hand, returned to practice after sitting out the previous day and missing every open session during the spring. He, however, spent the majority of practice doing conditioning work on a separate field with cornerbacks Cyrus Jones and Jonathan Jones, safety Nate Ebner, special teamer Matthew Slater and wide receiver Kenny Britt, all of whom are on the physically unable to perform list.

There were multiple reports earlier this week speculating that Mitchell, who hasn’t played a meaningful game since Super Bowl LI, could be on the trade block.

Running back Brandon Bolden is no longer on the non-football illness list and was a full participant. He missed significant time during the spring and was present but not in uniform Monday.

Wide receiver Jordan Matthews received medical care for several minutes during the second half of practice, but was later able to return to action.

All-in-all, the Patriots had perfect attendance at Friday’s practice.
