Report: Cleveland Cavaliers Just Acquired a New Player

The Cleveland Cavaliers let LeBron James slip down their hands, but they just got a fresh kick to the team.

LeBron James decided to leave the team, and head for Los Angeles. What did the Cleveland Cavaliers do? They thanked him for the championship win, and acquired Sam Dekker.

Sam Dekker was traded with the LA Clippers, and the info was confirmed Tuesday.

The trade goes both ways. The Clippers will get the draft rights to Vladimir Ceremeenko, and the Cavs will also get the rights to Rendaldas Seibutis and of course, cash considerations.

The Clippers acquired Dekker from the Houston Rockets with the Chris Paul deal June 2017. This will help them shed a roster spot before the beginning of the training camp in September. The team needed this.

“We want to thank Sam for his contributions to our team competitiveness and culture this past season. Sam is a talented and hard-working athlete who represented this organization well as a player and a person. We wish him the best of luck with his opportunity in Cleveland,” Clippers president Lawrence Frank said.

The Cavs will benefit, too. They now have the depth to the forward position with restricted free agent Rodney Hood still not signed.

Dekker was Houston’s first-round pick in 2015. He averaged 4.2 points and 2.4 points as a reserve in 73 games for Clippers’ last season. He will sure get more minutes with the Cavs who are rebuilding their roster after LeBron’s departure.

The 24-year-old will get $2.76 million for the season, and will become a restricted free agent next summer. This leaves the Clippers with a $2.8 million exception.

Let’s see how will the Cleveland Cavaliers do next summer. Things are getting hot in here, and we’ll sure want to see them rock the court without LeBron.
