Report: Patriots Release Veteran Wide Receiver

New England didn’t have much luck with their wide receiver spot, and Kenny Britt was the last to go.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirmed that the Patriots released the wide receiver. What’s the reason for this? It’s Britt’s hamstring injury. He started camp on the PUP list. The wide receiver could go back to the practice field, but was limited for the majority of the camp.

Britt joined the Patriots family last December, but wasn’t really great in the receiving game. He only caught two passes for 23 yards in three games.

There was a lot of noise surrounding him at the beginning of 2018, and Britt was the Patriots’ pass catcher option, especially after Julian Edelman’s four-game suspension. We can’t really forget his 68 catch, 1,002 yard and five touchdown season in 2016 with the Los Angeles Rams.

But, his injury put an end to Britt’s time with the Pats. Even Britt himself admitted that the injury had put him in a bad position with the team. “I definitely feel like I’m behind, because I’m not out there with the guys, getting the chemistry I need with the quarterbacks, and getting on the same page with everyone,” the wide receiver said.

Quarterback Tom Brady also spoke about Britt’s injuries during his press conference. “I think it’s just different stages at different times whether it’s Kenny or other players. You have set-backs with injuries and so forth and you don’t get the work but when you are out there you just try to get up to speed as best you can, so spending extra time when you’re available, I think that’s important. You know, Kenny was here at the end of last year so had a lot of reps with him and hopefully he can make the most of his opportunity. I think everyone’s really trying to do that this time of year, is whatever chance they get, you got to go out there and you got to show something. You got to really show the coaches, to the personnel people, that you can be dependable and trusted and you can get out there and make the plays that are going to help us win,” the quarterback said.

The Patriots will have to come up with a few ideas regarding their wide receiver spot. Is this their weakest spot?
