Patriots Opening Practice Squad For 2018 Season

The New England Patriots have already trimmed their roster down to 53 players. Now it’s time to announce the practice squad. It’s been a tough week for the players, as everyone was expecting the big news. Will they make the roster?

The Patriots’ practice squad is assembled a week away from the regular season opener. This unit won’t be as popular as the the active roster. However, it consists of huge names and familiar faces, so it won’t be a problem for the team to prepare for every game. The practice squad has the only goal to help those in the active roster to prepare for matchups.

Danny Etling is now part of the practice squad, and he will serve as the team’s practice quarterback. In other words, Etling will simulate certain styles and tactics of the upcoming signal caller the team will play against.

The squad gathers 10 players, and many others will help the team win.

Harvey Langi, linebacker
Danny Etling, quarterback
Jace Billingsley, wide receiver
Riley McCarron, wide receiver
Ralph Webb, running back
Vincent Valentine, defensive tackle
James Ferentz, offensive line
Cole Crossen, offensive line
Jomal Wiltz, cornerback
Trent Harris, defensive lineman

The Patriots lacked depth at the wide receiver spot. Julian Edelman won’t play in the first four games of the regular season, and the other wide receivers suffered injuries. McCarron could easily make the active roster. He had a really strong third preseason game against Carolina.

Webb was the darling of the preseason. He did a great job in the preseason opener, but couldn’t make the active roster. The team has a nice depth at running back position with White, Burkhead, Michel and Hill on the active roster.

It’s not like these guys won’t contribute to the Patriots’ games. Each of the players on the active roster will use well their help, and that’s a huge responsibility.
