Report: J.C. Jackson And Sony Michel Get New Jersey Numbers

The New England Patriots will have their regular-season opener. The team has already announced the new jersey numbers for some of the players on the 53-man roster. J.C. Jackson and Sony Michel got their new numbers, too.

Rookie cornerbacks J.C. Jackson and Duke Dawson and running back Sony Michel ditched the numbers they had at the beginning of the preseason. Jackson is switching from No. 34 to No. 27, Dawson is now No. 29, and Michel moved from No. 29 to No. 26.

Jackson had to change his number because he shares a number with veteran running back Rex Burkhead. Safety Eddie Pleasant and cornerback Ryan Lewis had Nos. 26 and 27 respectively during the preseason.

Michel never played a game in No. 29, because he sat out the preseason due to a knee injury.

Linebacker Ja’Whaun Benthey and cornerback Keion Crossen decided not to change their numbers. Bentley will wear his No. 51, and Crossen will stick to No. 35.

The New England Patriots wide receivers Chad Hansen and Amara Darboh were claimed off waivers Sunday. They will wear Nos. 16 and 82 respectively.

“They were available, so we’ll take a look at them and see how it goes,” Belichick said of the new wide receivers. “We have a little bit of extra time this week, not a whole lot, so we’ll just see how quickly that can or can’t happen. We don’t have any background with these players other than from college, which we’re a long way away from that. We’ll just take it day by day, go through the process, and see how it comes along,” he added.

What will happen next in the team? The Patriots are now complete, and Belichick has created the winning formula. Strong quarterback, deep units… What more could you ask for?
