What Patriots Gave Up To Acquire Josh Gordon

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network confirms that Josh Gordon is close to being shipped to the New England Patriots. This is a rather surprising move, but we’re used to “plays” of this kind. The Patriots know how to shock you, right?

New England always takes a risk when it comes to signing troubled players. The team didn’t go after Dez Bryant when he was released, and they weren’t interested in Martavis Bryant. The Pats were determined to proceed with the players they had at wide receiver, and this move was a big surprise. Yes, adding a superstar who has only played 11 games since 2013 is a tough decision, but Josh Gordon dominated in 2013.

The good news is that the Pats didn’t give up on an important name of their organization. “Trade now agreed to: Patriots are sending Cleveland a 5th-round, pick and if Gordon isn’t active for 10 games, Patriots get back a late-round pick from Browns, sources tell ESPN. As @rapsheet reported, Patriots were closing in on trade for Gordon,” ESPN’s Afam Schefter wrote on Twitter.

The only thing New England gave up on was a fifth-round pick, and that’s close to nothing.

Schefter also explained that Gordon “is healthy enough from his strained hamstring to play Sunday vs. Lions.”

Gordon suffered a hamstring injury, and it was one of the reasons the Browns had to trade him. The Patriots have been dealing with too many injuries lately, and Gordon seems to be healthy for the game.

The landing of Josh Gordon was the move that got NFL teams panicking. When the Patriots do such unexpected moves, it’s more than clear that they’re going all-in.

Can you imagine the pairing of Tom Brady and Josh Gordon? Nobody can guard that. And if you add Julian Edelman to the composition… That’s awesome!
