Report: Patriots Officialize Josh Gordon Trade, Shuffle Practice Squad Receivers

The New England Patriots have officialized the trade of Josh Gordon. The Patriots managed to seal the deal withing a day since they first announced the Josh Gordon trade.

Josh Gordon got the chance to join the New England Patriots at the very first moment he passed the team’s physical. Gordon suffered a hamstring injury at the end of his time with the Cleveland Browns, but he’s expected to practice with the team on Wednesday. Well, Gordon will have some time to get used to the rhythm of the game in Foxboro. Will the Josh Gordon trade give the team the boost they need?

The Patriots will confront the Detroit Lions on Sunday, and Gordon will be a nice addition to the roster. New England sent a 2019 fifth-round draft pick to the Browns. The team will get 2019 seventh-rounder if Gordon plays in less than 10 games for the Patriots this season.

Head coach Bill Belichick didn’t make any comments on the Gordon trade in his radio interview Monday evening. He refused to answer questions during the conference call with reporters Tuesday morning, noting that the deal isn’t finalized yet.

The Patriots have engaged into fixing the “holes” in the team. They’ve added and released numerous players, and the Gordon trade was followed by two minor transactions. The team re-signed wide receiver Jace Billingsley to the practice squad, and moved wideout Riley McCarron to the “practice squad injured” list.

Billingsley played with the Lions for quite some time. He was part of the Patriots’ practice squad earlier this month, but the team released him last Wednesday. McCarron was released and then re-signed to the practice squad after being active in the Patriots’ season opener.

Josh Gordon may be a troubled player, but he’s really talented, too. The Patriots will need that talent to go through the season, and the team can’t afford another loss. They already lost the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
