Report: Bill Belichick Explains Why Patriots Added Corey Coleman To Practice Squad

Corey Coleman was on and off with the New England Patriots. The wide receiver was released earlier this week before the addition of Josh Gordon to the active roster. However, Coleman is back.

The Patriots decided to sign Corey Coleman to the practice squad, giving him enough time to get familiar to the team’s offense.

Head coach Bill Belichick talked about the decision to re-sign Coleman, adding that it’s nice to have him around.

“(He’s) a player we want to work with. We’ll see how it goes. We haven’t had him a long time, but he’s done a good job with the opportunities that he’s had. We want to keep working with him. We’ll see how it goes,” Belichick said.

The Cleveland Browns selected the wide receiver with the 15th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He was productive in two seasons with the team, but was later traded to the Buffalo Bills. Coleman was released with the final trimming of the roster. Yes, the team didn’t want to keep him on the active roster.

The Patriots added the wide receiver to the active roster last week, but he wasn’t really productive in the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was released the next day.

Coleman has played in 18 games, and was able to catch 56 passes for 718 yards and five touchdowns. He’s one of the two wide receivers on the team’s practice squad. Former Detroit Lion Jace Billingsley is the other receiver.

“We’ve gotten to know him a lot better. We know a lot more (about him) now than we did (before the draft). But yeah, he’s a talented player,” Bill Belichick said of the addition of Corey Coleman.

The Patriots are getting ready for the Sunday’s match, and they will do their best to win this game.
