Report: New England Patriots Re-Sign Running Back

The New England Patriots have re-signed one of their former players. Running back Kenjon Barner got the opportunity to play with the team again.

Reporters at Gillette Stadium noticed that the Patriots had a locker ready for the running back. Yes, even Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald confirmed the new deal. However, although the move was reported, Barner’s contract wasn’t on the NFL transaction wire. Moreover, no player was released from the practice squad or the active roster. So, what’s really happening in New England?

This situation may be related to running back Rex Burkhead who left the Week 3 game against the Detroit Lions due to the neck injury he suffered in the second half.

Barner first signed with the New England Patriots on September 11. He was released last week as the team needed space for Cyrus Jones on the active roster. Barner remained inactive for the Patriots Week 2 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Barner spent time with the Chargers and the Philadelphia Eagles. He was part of last year’s Eagles team who defeated the Patriots in Super Bowl LII. He was also part of the Panthers family for his second sting this summer, but was released during the roster cuts.

“I’m getting there. It’s a lot to learn, a lot to take in, but I’ve had a lot of help to get to where I’m at. I’m feeling pretty comfortable with where I’m at. Still things to learn, obviously, in such a short window of time, but I’m definitely feeling comfortable with the things I do know,” Barner said when he was with the team a few weeks ago.

“You hear things [about the Patriots], being away from here. So, to actually be here and be around this locker room, this organization, I can definitely see the differences from places I’ve been. The way they do things around here is a lot different, but not for me. It reminds me of college. There’s no time wasted. Everything is efficient. The attention to detail here is something I’ve never experienced.”

Good luck, Barner!
