Report: Patriots Sign Former Texans Linebacker

The New England Patriots are all about changes now. The team lost two games so far, and they are definitely not interested in losing some more. The Patriots have introduced several new players to the team, including this former Texans linebacker.

The team added Texans linebacker John Simon and running back Kenjon Barner to the team. Barner’s signing was confirmed on Tuesday afternoon. Rex Burkhead left the game against the Detroit Lions with a neck injury, so the team had to do something. We still don’t have any info on Bentley’s landing on IR, but Simon is here to keep the defense afloat.

The linebacker was active in nine games for the Colts. Simon is a former fourth-round pick of the Ravens in 2013. He spent his rookie campaign in Baltimore before signing with the Houston Texans. He played there in the period between 2014 and 2016. Simon totaled 163 tackles, 13 sacks and an interception.

Simon will join the linebacker unit led by Dont’a Hightower, Kyle Can Noy and Elandon Roberts. Simon will give depth to the unit, but the loss of Bentley can’t be overstated. The Purdue product showed great promise in the first few games of his time with the Patriots and he managed to earn тhe trust of the coaching stuff. He was the defensive play caller and came up with a few clutch plays. In the game against the Lions in Week 3 Bentley had five tackles and an interception.

Barner signed with the Pats on September 11 but was released in order to make a free spot for Cyrus Jones on the 53-man roster. Barner wasn’t active for the Patriots Week 2 game against the Jags.

The Patriots will have to work hard and fix the damage caused by the games they lost. Will they succeed in the efforts?
