LeBron Was So Hated in 2012 He Received a Message of Disgust From an Al-Qaeda Member

Being one of the world’s greatest basketball players means that you’ll get to confront people who hate you once in a while. LeBron James is one of the most brilliant athletes to ever walk on Earth, and he still gets letters of hate from some people. This time it was an Al-Qaeda member.

Some people didn’t really like LeBron James at the time he left Cleveland to joint he Miami Heat. Cleveland fans burned jerseys, and NBA fans complained about issues associated with the competitive balance. Even sports talk show hosts called him names. They couldn’t accept the fact that LeBron joined Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh in South Beach. But, this Al-Qaeda guy crossed the line.

In 2012, Muhammad Rahim, an Afghan who was translating for Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda, sent a note declaring his hate for LeBron James to his lawyer, Carlos Warner. The lawyer was born in Akron. Yes, you get the point.

“Dear Mr. Warner! LeBron James is very bad man. He should apologize to the city of Cleveland,” the letter read.

The lawyer explains that Rahim’s sentiment about King James mirrors his client’s tribal values according to which loyalty is of utmost importance. If you ask Rahim, betrayals are never tolerated and forgiven. Only a honest apology could fix the damage caused by a betrayal. Well, LeBron sort of apologized to the Cleveland Cavaliers, as he helped them win the first championship in 52 years. The team won it in 2016.

Maybe this great win could help Rahim understand that he’s a good man.

Things like this are somewhat normal in the world of sports. People are hating those who don’t share the same opinion as they do, and this guy was just a basketball fan who disapproved LeBron’s departure from Cleveland. But, departures are a normal thing in the NBA.
