Bill Belichick Gives Early Update On Josh Gordon’s Progress
The New England Patriots got Josh Gordon through a trade with the Cleveland Browns. Head coach Bill Belichick didn’t mention anything about it at the beginning of the week. Both teams confirmed the trade, and the only thing Belichick said was that the trade hadn’t been finalized.
This time Belichick addressed the acquisition in his news conference Friday morning. Well, he said more than we expected, and hopefully this will put an end to all the rumors.
“Well, since the last time we met, we officially added Josh and Cyrus (Jones) to the roster. So, it’s good to get them here. I’d say really in both cases, those two guys have done about as much as they can do in the few days they’ve been here, or been back in Cyrus’ case. We’ll see how it goes, but I think Josh is a smart kid. He’s worked hard. He’s picked up a lot. Cyrus has gotten back into things quickly, so we’ll see how it goes,” Belichick said.
Belichick never gives compliments to his players, but it’s definitely a good sign that he said Gordon had “picked up a lot.” Gordon will need enough time to learn the Patriots’ offense, but he will have the chance to play on Sunday. The Patriots will challenge the Detroit Lions, and Gordon will show his talent.
Gordon was suspended for violating the league’s substance-abuse policy. When asked about him, Belichick said he would never talk about injuries or personal problems of players.
The wide out caught seven passes for 151 yards and a 80-yard touchdown in the game against the Patriots in 2013. He was still a member of the Browns at the time. “It was a chance to see him first-hand. It was an impressive play,” Belichick said of that play.
Good luck, Gordon!
