Report: Bill Belichick Talks Even More About Josh Gordon

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick finally opened up about Josh Gordon. Few days ago, the head coach didn’t want to say much about the receiver.

The only thing Belichick said was that Josh Gordon is a talented player. “I think everybody feels like this is a talented player. We’ll see how it goes,” the head coach told Scott Zack.

On Friday, Belichick had a press conference, and used the opportunity to preach the same mantra. He also spoke about the way Patriots view Gordon. “I think Josh is a smart kid. He’s worked hard,” Belichick said.

That was it. Belichick didn’t respond any other Gordon-related questions. When asked if the team targeted Gordon for long, the head coach gave a more general response. “Yeah, I mean we’re focused on the players that are on our team and getting ready for the games that we play. That’s what our focus is. So from time to time other things surface and we look at those in a timely fashion,” he said.

“Look, all players in this league are talented players or they wouldn’t be in this league. We’ll see,” he said when reporters wanted to know if he sees Gordon’s talent as a rarity in the league.

The first time Belichick met Gordon was during the team’s only matchup with him in 2013. In this game the receiver had 151 receiving yards and an 80-yard touchdown. “Yeah, it was an impressive play,” Belichick said of the brilliant touchdown.

2013 was a great year for Gordon. He led the NFL with 1,646 yards, 87 receptions and nine touchdowns. Belichick talked a lot about Gordon at the time. “He’s a great player. He can attack all three levels of the defense. He can run through them, he can take short plays, catch-and-run plays, crossing patterns, look patterns, plays like that, quick three-step drops and break tackles. He’s very good on the intermediate routes, the in-cuts, the crossing routes, comebacks, stop-routes, things like that that attack the middle levels of the defense. He’s a complete player that can run fast, catch, big target and make a lot of yards on his own after the catch with his speed, size and running ability,” he said in 2013.
