Rob Gronkowski Makes Major Statement About The Jaguars Defense

The battle between Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski and Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey wasn’t in the focus of Sunday’s game. The tight end was held to two catches for 15 yards in the major loss to the Jaguars in Week 2. This action ties Gronkowski for the fourth fewest receiving yards in his professional career with a minimum of 40 snaps. He’s amazed with the Jaguars defense.

I just tried to get open. That’s all, no matter who it was against. They did a good job overall as a defense. They are fast. They covered well and were prepared. I just have to come out and play better. It’s difficult against a team like that and you have to be prepared. You have to be ready and you have to find the openings. And that’s one thing I didn’t do today,” Gronk said of the Jaguars defense.

Gronkowski was definitely going up against Jalen Ramsey, but safety Tashaun Gipson was covering him throughout the contest. Gipson took on Gronk for the majority of the matchup, and this resulted in zero catches in the second half.

“Yeah, they had a lot of coverage on him at different points and, you know, we just never connected the way we need to,” Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said.

“We have some ball players on this team. Different guys show up each and every week, and it’s fun to be a part of this defense because we have so many different guys that cam play this game. I can’t wait to watch the tape and see what Gip [Tashaun Gipson] was doing, you know,” Jaguars pass rusher Calais Campbell said about the Jags defense limiting Gronk.

It was a bad day for the New England Patriots, but Gronkowski believes that they have to “bounce back,” adding that he doesn’t feel good about the loss.

“No, but you have to put this one behind us and bounce back.”
