Bill Belichick Shares Tom Brady’s Turnover Concerns

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady encouraged himself and the Patriots offense to try and make a concerted effort and limit the turnovers going forward. Head coach Bill Belichick has more on Brady’s concern.

This is actually the rule No. 2 behind the scoring points for NFL offenses. However, it was a major problem for the Patriots in 2018. The team has handed the ball over nine times in the regular season, and the Patriots have yet to have a nice game with zero turnovers. The Patriots had 12 turnover in 2017.

“Those turnovers, whether it is an interception, fumbled snap, I think that’s been something that we have to correct. If you look back at the first five games we’re giving away too many scoring opportunities. That is limiting our points. I thought the other night we should have put 52 [points] out there, at least. Maybe more. When we play a team like Kansas City, we have to take advantage of every scoring opportunity because we know they are,” Brady said during his appearance on WEEI’s Kirk and Callahan program.

The head coach had a conference call on Monday, right after Brady made his comments. Belichick agreed with his favorite quarterback, noting that the team has to correct their mistakes. “Well, we haven’t had a game yet without a turnover, so that’s definitely a goal for us every week. Hopefully we can hit that this week. Yeah, I agree with Tom,” Belichick said.

In the game against the Miami Dolphins, the quarterback thew two interceptions, and one of them was not really his fault. Tight end Rob Gronkowski batted the ball right in the air, and it went into the arms of a Colts player.

“Well, that’s part of the execution of the passing game. Sometimes the timing between the quarterback and the receiver, where the ball is located or what the receiver does right at the end of the route where he does or doesn’t do the thing that the quarterback thinks he’s going to do or vice versa, and then sometimes those balls end up not being either where the receiver thinks it’s going to be or the receiver is not exactly where the quarterback thinks it’s going to be. Those are things that you just have to work on and fine-tune and execute. That’s why the execution of the passing game has to be so precise in this league. Defenders are close by and if the ball is not caught cleanly it could get into their hands. Really it just comes down to execution,” Belichick added.
