NFL Legend Lawrence Taylor Responds To Belichick Defending His Greatness

We have seen so many great pass-rushers in the NFL history, but Lawrence Taylor is the ultimate. The legend made eight All-Pro teams in nine years, and topped 20 sacks in a season. Taylor was also the last defensive player to win an MVP award.

Lawrence Taylor was part of one of the greatest teams in the NFL. The New York Giants of the 1980s. The team won two Super Bowls thanks to the defense Taylor lead. This created a perfect base for the young assistant coach – Bill Belichick.

Belichick won five championships as head coach of the Patriots. He is considered the best coach in the NFL, and the ultimate defensive minds. Belichick spent most of his career with star defenders, and Lawrence Taylor is his favorite.
Chicago Bears linebacker Khalil Mack is often compared to Taylor, and that’s where most people make mistake.

Mack is a great player, but he is not even close to Taylor. Reporters asked the Patriots head coach about Taylor and Mack, and Bill was sort of offended by the question. Who would not be? Taylor is a legend, and nobody can replace him. Not even the great Mack.

“Wait a minute, we’re talking about Lawrence Taylor now. I’m not putting anybody in Lawrence Taylor’s class,” Belichick said.

Belichick is right. The NFL ranked the 100 greatest players of all times, and Taylor took the third position.
Mack is NFL’s best defender at the moment, but he has a long way to go before being compared to the greatness of Lawrence Taylor.

Taylor was amazed with the way Bill Belichick defended him, and took to Twitter to respond to his comments.

Belichick and the legend have a special bond. Belichick coached Taylor for four seasons as a positional coach, and was alongside him for six more as defensive coordinator.
