Report: MRI Results Come In On Sony Michel’s Knee Injury

Sony Michel left the Week 7 contest early due to a knee injury. However, the Patriots can get ready for their next game without being concerned about Michel’s condition.

The running back suffered an injury during the matchup against the Chicago Bears, and had to be carted to the Patriots locker room. Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network confirms that the knee injury “is not considered serious.” Sony Michel had an MRI on his knee after the nasty injury.

The running back took a 1st & 10 handoff from quarterback Tom Brady in the second quarter. He was then rolled up on by Chicago Bears end Bilal Nichols and lied down on the ground for a while after fumbling the football in agony. Michel was helped to the sideline, and was carted to the Patriots locker room. The team ruled him out for the game.

Rapoport confirmed that Michel’s timetable to return is still not clear. He could miss some of the season due to this injury, but he will not be gone for too long.

“I’m starting to hear some whispers that maybe [it’s] not quite as bad as it looked, but until you get an MRI, until you really know what all the scans show you really don’t know very much,” Rapoport said.

It turns out that Rapoport was right about his initial report. The MRI showed that Michel is fine.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter received a text from Michel after the injury saying, “Expect it will be a little bit, but not overly serious.”

This is Michel’s second injury during his time with the Pats. The rookie back had a procedure on his knee that kept him out of the preseason and the Week 1 contest. He did a really good job in the last three weeks, and Pats hope he will recover soon.
