Nate Solder Broke His Silence About Decision To Leave Patriots

Nate Solder joined the Giants, and Patriots fans still discuss his decision to leave New England.

The Giants’ left tackle does not regret the decision he made despite the 1-6 start. What made Nate Solder leave the Pats?

“I was certainly not expecting [the trades], but I am so thankful to be here under the leadership of general manager Dave Gettleman, coach [Pat] Shurmur,” Solder said on Friday.

“I just think that they’re building this thing the right way. I believe in those guys tremendously. All of the decisions they made I fully support, and whatever that means, we play it out however it needs to be played out.”

Solder was definitely a big move for the team as he signed a four-year contract worth $62 million. This deal made him the second-highest-paid offensive lineman in the NFL. Solder was brought in the team to be the backbone of the offensive line that is supposed to bring the Giants up on the list.

The unit struggled a lot and could not give Eli Manning the time he demanded. The terrible start actually led to the trades this week, and cornerback Eli Apple and defensive tackle Damon “Snacks” Harrison were traded.

In the preseason, Shurmur said that the Giants are ready to go as far as the offensive line could take. We are seven weeks into the season, and things do not look too great.

Nate Solder did not played up to his deal and struggled with consistency. “I thought that speed of the game affected me, personally, at the beginning, and I think that can happen against good, fast pass-rushers,” he said after the terrible loss to Atlanta.

“You kind of [have to] catch up to the speed and you don’t ever want to have that happen. So, going into this game, they have fast guys as well, and they have plenty of speed. You got to come out there fired up, ready to go off the first snap, and not make those early mistakes that you have to overcome.”
