Details Emerge On Rob Gronkowski’s Back Injury

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski missed the Week 7 contest against the Chicago Bears due to his back injury. This was a rather concerning issue for the team, because Gronk has a key role in the offense. However, the team was lucky enough to win the contest without the star tight end.

Nobody knew a thing about Gronk’s back injury. His status was questionable until Sunday, and the team ruled him out. The tight end was first limited in practice due to his ankle injury, but his back issues were more serious than we thought. Gronk did not travel with his teammates to Chicago.

So, what really happened to Gronk? Mike Giradi of the NFL Network reported that Gronk had “painful back spasms.” He tried to relieve his condition and get ready for the Sunday’s contest, but things did not work for him. According to sources, the injury is more like a short-term thing.

Gronkowski already has an injury history regarding his back. He did three surgeries, but the ailment is still bugging him.

Ian Rapoport went on Good Morning Football on Monday and talked about Gronk’s injury and the possibility that he comes back for the Week 8 contest.

“With Gronkowski, he did not play in this game, obviously. He did not even take the charter with the team just because his back locked up in Friday’s practice. They did not want to take any chances. Just did not feel well enough to go, but I’m told that this is not a long term injury and the expectation right now is that Gronk will not even miss any time. Obviously they’re going to monitor it. It’s a back and he’s had some issues, but this one seems like it’s going to be OK and, of course, the Patriots ended up winning anyway,” Rapoport reported.
