Devin And Jason McCourty Given Huge Honor By NFLPA

The McCourty brothers are in the spotlight these days for all the things they do off the field.

Jason and Devin McCourty are named the Week 7 NFL Players Association Community MVPs because they raised more than $200,000 at the Tackle Sickle Cell Casino Night. The brothers share their birthday and an NFL team, and this is the first time the NFLPA names two Community MVPs in one week.

The Casino Night was organized in Boston on Monday. Devin and Johnson attended it, and this is the first time they are wearing the same uniform. The Patriots made a deal with the Cleveland Browns to sign Jason McCourty.

About 500 hundred guests attended the Casino Night, and surpasses last year’s record profit. The brothers launched their campaign in 2013, and raised over a million dollars to support the research and raise the awareness for sickle cell disease. This is a blood disorder that makes red blood cells misshapen and break down.

“Sickle cell disease is a sickness that has caused a lot of pain in our family, specifically for our Aunt Winifred. So to be able to bring awareness for others and raise money to help those impacted by this terrible disease has been humbling. My mom is someone who has always taught us to give back and has been a huge inspiration for Devin and myself when it comes to community service. I believe God has blessed me in so many aspects in my life that it’s only right to spread that blessing,” Jason McCourty said in a statement.

The McCourty brothers are always involved with community work. They host the annual Tackle Sickle Cell 5k Run/Walk in New Jersey and other programs in the country.

“Making an impact for people who need a voice has inspired our work in everything we do. We want to be remembered for more than just playing football,” Jason said.
