Here’s Why Tom Brady Told Gronk To Stand Up

The New England Patriots defeated the Kansas City ChiefsTom Brady and Rob Gronkowski stole the show.
NBC microphones caught Brady ordering Gronk to stand up, and the video went viral. It was funny how Gronk stood up almost instantly.

The Patriots had 3:39 to play in the first half of the Week 6 contest, and Gronk had his hand placed on the ground in a stance along the offense. The play clock was ticking down on the 2nd & play, and Brady shouted at the tight end. It was hilarious.

The play resulted in a pass to Josh Gordon, but the pass interference put the Pats at 1st & Goal at 1-yard line. Sony Michel reached for the end zone and had his second score on the night.

It seems like Brady has a really good reason to call for Gronk to stand up. During his weekly appearance on WEEI’s Kirk and Callahan on Monday, Brady spoke on the matter.

“The formation was for him to be in a stance, but based on something I saw, I just wanted him to make sure he had good body presence on (Dee) Ford. Ford was just screaming off the edge most of the night,” Brady said.

The quarterback did the same thing in the victory video he posted on his Instagram account. “Great win against a great team. 5-2, that’s the goal. Chicago next. Going to need everybody. Gronk, you can line up however you want if you keep stiff arming people like that. Let’s go! My kids are sleeping,” Brady said in the video.

Head coach Belichick was amazed with Gronk. “Yeah, Rob gave us a lot of big plays blocking and receiving. He got the single coverage on the seam on the last play. The other play was kind of off of a play-action, kind of rub play so we got it free and then Rob did a great job running with the ball. He stiff-armed a couple of tacklers, added some extra yards there on his own. Again, we had a lot of great players out there; so did they. They all stepped up. They all made big plays. Really it was just a great team effort,” he said.
