Report: Cordarrelle Patterson Makes Request After Backfield Debut

The New England Patriots counted on Jeremy Hill, Rex Burkhead, Sony Michel and Kenjon Barner, but some got injured and others were gone. James White took eight carries during the team’s win over the Buffalo Bills, but did not have the most rushing attempts. Cordarrelle Patterson had 10 carries for 38 yards, and he plays both wide receiver and returner.

Cordarrelle Patterson had some really legitimate runs out of the I formation, and he said that he wants some more of them.

I’ve been playing every position my entire life. So when my number’s called, I’ll be ready. Josh McDaniels did a hell of a job putting me back there. He trusted me. I had 10 carries, so I’m thankful for that. Next week, I hope I get like 25 carries,” Patterson said.

Everyone is trying to see how far head coach Bill Belichick will take this, but team’s history says he will not. Belichick almost never recycles a gimmick. Jonas Gray once ran the football 37 times in a game, and then ran it 20 more times in the season. He was late for practice, and we know how things ended. So, Belichick will not use the same “surprise” twice.

Will this happen with Patterson? The Green Bay Packers will definitely check the tape from the game, and will recognize the way Pats used Patterson. This will eventually help them get ready for it. The “tricks” Patterson had will not work against the Packers.

However, Michel is week-to-week, and the Green Bay Packers own the No.22 ranked rushing defense in the league. The Patriots may give Kenjon Burner a nice workload in the game, because they are aware of the fact that the Packers cannot stop a running back.

Having Patterson on this position was great, but there is no chance for him to carry the football 25 times in Week 9 or any other game.
