Report: Patriots’ Linebacker Placed On Reserve Due To Injury

The New England Patriots put linebacker Ja’Whaun Bentley on injured reserve three days after their terrible loss to the Detroit Lions. This was a rather surprising move, because the fifth-round rookie did not suffer an injury during the game.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported that the 22-year-old linebacker would not return off the reserve list. Now we know his reasons to make such comment.

Linebacker Bentley suffered a torn biceps during the game in Detroit.

“I’m told his injury, which occurred late in the team’s loss to the Lions on Sept. 23, is a torn biceps. He already has undergone surgery and has been around the team since, staying involved as he also focuses on his recovery and rehabilitation,” Reiss noted.

Bentley had a nice start to his career before being placed on injured reserve. The linebacker played in all three of Patriots’ games, and was on the field for 138 of New England’s defensive snaps (63.3%) as a rotational linebacker and 46 (54.1%) on special teams. Bentley registered 13 tackles and interception on defense. He also had one stop in the kicking game.

The team is complete now, but several players suffered serious injuries. Some of them were placed on injured reserve while others were released. Most of them had torn ACL, and we all know how serious that is.

Head coach Bill Belichick struggled with his injured players, but now he has Julian Edelman and Josh Gordon in the receiver unit. It seems like the Patriots are strong again since they won two games after their loss to the Lions.

The team is going back to what it was before all the injuries happened. The Patriots are a Super Bowl win, and no injury is ever going to change that. Belichick released and welcomed many players with the only goal to build a strong roster.
