Report: NFL Issues Punishment For Julian Edelman After Game Vs. Bills

The New England Patriots defeated the Buffalo Bills on Monday, but Julian Edelman got another surprise.

Julian Edelman was fined for unnecessary roughness during the game. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero confirmed that Edelman is fined with $26,739 for punching a Bills player in the face mask during the game after calling fair catch.
The fine is the only dark dot on Edelman’s game that night. Edelman had his best numbers of the year as he was able to catch nine of his ten passes for 10 yards.

“He played good. He’s got such great awareness and instincts in the middle part of the field, and he made some other plays tonight for us. Blocks a lot, does a lot of the dirty work, and it’s just great having him out there,” Brady said of the wideout.

Edelman missed the 2017 season due to a torn ACL. Head coach Bill Belichick said that he knew Edelman was returning for the season.

“I thought Julian had a good camp, and he showed, even from the spring when he was out there, that he was pretty close and had a good training camp, was able to do those things in camp. So, I think we saw that. I don’t think you’re exactly sure what you’re going to see the first time, but by the time we got through the spring and into training camp, I was pretty confident when he came back that it would be where it was earlier this year, and I’d say it has been,” Belichick said.

Edelman hauled in 25 catches for 251 yards and two touchdowns in four games so far. He was important for quarterback Tom Brady on third down and was also great in the red zone. Edelman caught six of his eight targets for 59 yards and two scores.
