Report: Official Details Emerge Regarding Luke Walton’s Future With Lakers

Several outlets reported that Los Angeles Lakers President of Basketball Operations Magic Johnson slammed head coach Luke Walron after the team’s poor start to the season.

However, sources reveal that Luke Walton is safe for now, and Los Angeles Times’ Tania Ganguli and Brad Turner were the first to report the news.

“Magic Johnson was angry in the meeting he had with Luke Walton, but he doesn’t make rash decisions. [Per sources], Luke Walton’s job is not in danger. Further, ownership still very much believes in him.”

Magic Johnson was really upset with the Lakers’ offensive system, and he did not open the topic of the team’s overall win-loss record, as reported by Turner.

“Sources close to Magic said he was stern with Luke Walton during the meeting more about not having a system in place than the wins and losses. Magic wants to see Luke have the Lakers run an offense that he has yet to see. Sources said that maybe the meeting opened Luke’s eyes,” he explained.

The Lakers head coach talked to media members about his deal with the front office and his job security.

“Magic, myself, Rob Pelinka and Jeanie Buss, we are in constant communication, so this is no new, all of a sudden there’s an emergency meeting. This is something we do all the time. What we discuss in our meeting is between us. But I’ve been saying, we’ve been saying since the beginning we’re going to be patient. We know where we’re going, we know how to get there. It takes time and hard work,” Walton said on Friday.

When asked about his future with the team, Walton said he does not plan to go anywhere. “I feel like I have a great relationship with management. I don’t feel like I’m going anywhere,” Walton said.

Well, the Lakers better help him stay around for longer.
