Report: Josh McDaniels Is Rumored To ‘High On The List’ To Replace A Current NFL Coach

The Celtics welcome the Raptors to TD Garden tonight at 7 p.m., while the Bruins face the Stars in Dallas at 8 p.m.

Josh McDaniels mentioned as a potential replacement for Mike McCarthy: Following a Thursday night loss to the Seahawks, the Packers are now 4-5-1. If Green Bay — equipped with an all-time great quarterback in Aaron Rodgers — fails to make the playoffs, head coach Mike McCarthy’s job is potentially in jeopardy.

The result could mean another possible opportunity for Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to get another chance as a head coach.

NFL insider Albert Breer explained what he thought during a Friday morning appearance on 98.5 The Sports Hub’s Toucher & Rich.

“I think Josh McDaniels will be in play,” Breer said of Green Bay’s potential candidates to succeed McCarthy should he not be retained.

Breer explained that when McDaniels was considered for the 49ers head coaching position two years ago, the possible general manager that San Francisco thought about bringing in simultaneously was Brian Gutekunst, who is now the Packers’ GM.

“They’ve done their homework on each other,” Breer said.

“If I’m (McDaniels),” Breer concluded, “I’ve got Aaron Rodgers to compete with for the next four or five years, and I’ve got a long runway to find the next guy, too, which I think is a real positive.”
