Bill Belichick Makes Bold Statement On Return Of Rex Burkhead

The New England Patriots are getting deeper and dangerous, and their backfield is as strong as it used to be. The Patriots finally activated running back Rex Burkhead off of injured reserve after he practiced with the squad for a couple of weeks.

Rex Burkhead is a rather valuable player for New England, and he showed the team that he can really take whatever role he is offered. Burkhead was placed on injured reserve after the Patriots’ loss to the Detroit Lions. He had to leave the game due to a neck injury, but was sidelined due to a concussion.

Head coach Bill Belichick talked to reporters about Burkhead and his contribution to the field.

“Yeah, Rex has worked really hard, as he always does. So, we talked about it when I made the move and I talked to him about it. We had a lengthy discussion. I think we both had an understanding of what the situation was, what needed to be done and how to do it,” Belichick said.

“He’s been very diligent and consistent with his approach to it, and I’d say as we got closer to the opportunity to bring him back to being eligible to practice and then ultimately being eligible to play, he consistently met or exceeded kind of targets or things that he needed to show or do or be able to do to move forward. So, yeah, he’s done a great job and look forward to having him back.”

Burkhead’s return is a good news for everyone, including Belichick. Quarterback Tom Brady trusts him, too. However, Belichick did not say much about Burkhead’s role on the field. “Yeah, we’ll see. I don’t know,” he said.
In his three games this season, Burkhead, totaled 86 yards on the ground, and was able to catch three of his six targets for 31 yards.
