Photos: LeBron James Visits ‘I Promise’ School Before Lakers Vs. Cavaliers Game

LeBron James returned to Cleveland, but it is not a longterm engagement. King James arrived in Cleveland to play against his former teammates. That’s not the only thing that keeps him coming in town. LeBron used the occasion to visit the I Promise School he opened this summer, and it was the happiest day for local kids.

LeBron went to the I Promise School in his hometown Akron, Ohio, before the matchup between the Los Angeles lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers. King James will confront his former team for the first time since landing in Los Angeles.
The Lakers star had enough time for the kids and the IPS staff. He used every minute of his time to visit each classroom and spend some time with the students and the entire staff.

If you jump to IPS’s Twitter account, you will read it was “all love & smiles with our big kid from Akron back in school.”

LeBron opened his I Promise School in July as another piece of the Akron City Schools puzzle. It is a public school that provides free education to 240 at-risk youth. The kids get two meals and support programs for their loved ones. The program also provides GED classes and job placement.

“Kids just want to know that you care. Once they know that you care, then they will tap into their gift. That’s what I’m just trying to do. Let the kids know that we care, that I care. Then we’ll let them fly away. I walked the same streets as those kids. I had the same dreams. The same nightmares. The same upbringing as those kids, so I know everything that they’re going through,” LeBron said of the kids in Akron in one occasion.

The Lakers are playing in Cleveland tonight, and it will be a game worth watching.
