Report: Fans Went Wild After Top Jets Player Not Expected To Play Vs. Patriots

Every NFL team plays safe at this point of the regular season. The New York Jets took the safe route, too.

The Jets decided not to use rookie quarterback Sam Darnold in Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots.

The first-year signal-caller will miss the contest due to a nagging foot injury. The information was first confirmed by NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport Friday morning. This does not come as a surprise for fans, because Darnold was out of this week’s practice sessions, as reported in the Jets injury report.

Darnold will sit out the game and Josh McCown will be under center for the New York Jets. Again. He started games instead of Darnold in the Week 10 game against the Buffalo Bills. The Bills defeated the Jets 41-10, and McCown had a poor game. The 39-year-old player was able to complete 17 of his 34 passes for 150 yards. He had no touchdowns and a couple of interceptions.

Ian Rapoport said that the Jets are probably trying to rest Darnold. The round-three pick in the 2018 NFL Draft was looked great at times in the regular season, but his rookie campaign was tough in general. Darnold leads the NFL with 14 interceptions after the four-pick game in the last start in the Week 9 game against the Miami Dolphins.

Darnold has a 43.3 passer rating in the last three contest, and each of these are actually Jets losses. There is no need for the team to add to this misery against the 7-3 New England Patriots.

The Patriots are playing their best football if you take aside their awful loss to the Tennessee Titans. But, it was just a poor game, and the team will be able to fix the damage in their contest against the Jets. That’s what NFL experts say.
