Report: New England Patriots Signed Veteran Free Agent, Linebacker

The New England Patriots have done so many changes this season, and this time they added a veteran free agent linebacker Ramon Humber to fill the last open position on their active roster. The information was confirmed by several sources, including Kevin Duffy of the Boston Herald. Well, Duffy was the first to report the change.

Humber is a familiar name in Foxboro. He played with the New England Patriots in the 2016 preseason, but was released during the final roster cuts. The linebacker landed with the Buffalo Bills, and played with the team the last two-and-a-half seasons.

The 31-year-old veteran was usually used on special teams throughout his football career. However, Humber started nine games at linebacker position for the Bills last year, and ranked third on the team with 89 tackles.

The linebacker slipped behind second-year pro Matt Milano on the Bills’ depth chart this season and played just 60 defensive snaps in nine games before his release last week.

The New England Patriots made a similar move last week when they signed former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Albert McClellan. He had his greatest achievement on special teams. The Patriots struggled in kick coverage that season, and were 29th in average kickoff return yards allowed and ranked 31st in punt return yards allowed.

Humber came on Nicholas Grigsby’s position on the roster, and came to practice Wednesday. He sported Grigsby’s old No. 50.

The New England Patriots are off this weekend before hitting the field against the New York Jets next week at MetLife Stadium. The team lost their last game to the Tennessee Titans, and it was one of the worst games in the team’s history. Let’s hope that the guys learned their lesson. They cannot make similar mistakes, and we do hope that they will win the next contest.
