Report: Patriots Make A Flurry Of Rosters Moves

The New England Patriots are winning games, but that does not stop them from making changes to the roster. The team was engaged in series of moves – two players came in and four went out, leaving two spots on the active roster and the practice squad.

The Patriots added safety Obi Melifonwu and linebacker Albert McClellan were added to the roster, as confirmed on Monday. The signings became official on Tuesday and the specifics were not disclosed.

When it comes to departures, the Patriots released offensive lineman Cole Croston and defensive lineman Geneo Grissom. Offensive lineman Brian Schwenke was placed on injured reserve. Running back Kenneth Farrow was released from the practice squad.

Obi Melifonwu is a former second round pick of the Raiders in 2017. He will bring a huge potential to Foxboro. In his last season at Uconn, Melifonwu had impressive numbers. He recorded 118 tackles and four interceptions while participating in all 13 games in 2016. Before the NFL Draft Deadline, Melifonwu ran a 4.4 40-yard dash and logged 7.07 seconds in the 3-cone drill. He struggled with several injuries in his career, but if he stays healthy Melifonwu will be of great contribution for the Patriots.

“I’ve lived in Massachusetts my whole life, really. The Patriots have been my favorite team since I started watching football,” Melifonwu told the Boston Herald after his move to New England.

McClellan was playing with the Baltimore Racens for his entire career. He was added as an undrafted free agent out of Marshall in 2010. McClellan played in 96 career regular season games for the Ravens and had 24 starts, totaling 99 tackles, three sacks, four quarterback hits and 12 tackles for a loss. McClellan forced two fumbles and recovered four others. He played in eight postseason games for the Ravens and played in their Super Bowl XLVII winning squad in 2012.
