Tom Brady Makes Decision On Helmet For Rest Of The Season

Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has a nice helmet he likes to wear, but the league gave him some bad news att he beginning of the season. Brady’s favorite helmet is now banned, and he has already tried some alternatives. The NFL is making a sweeping change next season, and some of the older helmets are out of the game for safety reasons.

We saw Brady wearing his Riddell VSR-4 helmet, and also tried the Riddell SpeedFlex this season. The quarterback has some experience with these helmets. He wore the SpeedFlex in the preseason and the first two games of the regular season. However, he went back to his Riddell VSR-4 in Week 3. The Patriots quarterback wore his old Riddell VSR-4 helmet last Sunday in the game against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium.

“For those who noticed Tom Brady going back to his old helmet on Sunday, I asked him about it today and it sounds like he plans to stick with it for the foreseeable future. This is the last season he is allowed to wear it. Ultimately, he’s just most comfortable in the old helmet,” Mike Reiss tweeted about Brady’s helmet shakeup.

It is more than clear that Brady prefers wearing his older helmet. However, he will have to make a change in 2019.

“You’ve seen something a certain way for a long period of time so I like as much vision as possible with the peripheral vision. It’s all important, it all matters so yeah, just making sure it’s kind of similar to what the experience has always been. Like I said, there’s still some tweaks to go and I’m working it out. But overall, hopefully the helmet provides more protection and I’m able to – I’ve been wearing a very old helmet for a long period of time but it’s worked pretty well too so that’s why I haven’t been – I’ve been a little hesitant to change,” Brady said in August.
