Adam Thielen Gives His Thoughts On Belichick Altercation

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was the star of last night’s game against the Minnesota Vikings. Adam Thielen got a piece of the cake, too.

With just nine minutes remaining in the Patriots 24-10 win over the Vikings, running back Latavius Murray took a 4th and 1 carry for what was later ruled as a first down. The rush was a close call as Murray was seen at the first down marker. In cases like this, players could rush to the line and get a play off so the opposing team is unable to challenge. However, Minnesota did not have this luck and Patrick Chung was banged up on the play which actually stopped the clock. Thielen did not appreciate this, and ended up fighting with head coach Bill Belichick right there on the sideline.

Yeah. obviously I’ve got to keep my cool. Got a lot of respect for him and what he’s done. I can’t lose it like that, but I just thought it was interesting timing for a guy to go down when it was a close play that could have been reviewed. For me, I just lost my emotions,” Thielen.

“I just thought the play was cheap. I wasn’t directing it towards him. I just thought the play was cheap. Like I said, I let the emotions get the best of me. It’s a smart football play if you are in the situation. Why not? It’s not cheating. There’s no rule against it from a guy going down. I don’t know if he was hurt or not. He might have been hurt and that’s fine. It is what it is, but like I said, just interesting timing for a guy to go down when it’s a close play.”

When asked about the exchange and asked if he and the Viking were exchanging holiday pleasantries, the Patriots head coach said, “Yeah, pretty much.”

“No offense taken. It’s football. There’s emotions and he can think what he wants to think about me and it really doesn’t change how I’m going to go out and play the game. He can hate me all he wants and I’ll still be the same person I am. I’m going to try to go out and do my best and I’m going to try and compete on every play,” Thielen said.
