Packers Request Interviews From Two Great Patriots Coaches

New England Patriots coordinators somehow manage to attract everyone’s attention. Several NFL teams are trying to do something about their empty head-coaching positions, including the Green Bay Packers.

The Packers fired head coach Mike McCarthy, and are planning to submit requests to interview Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and linebackers coach/de facto defensive coordinator Brian Flores, as reported by Jim McBride of The Boston Globe on Sunday night.

McDaniels was a common name on the head-coaching market. He has been filling headlines in the past three years. The offensive coordinator had interview with the San Francisco 49ers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Los Angeles Rams in the 2016 postseason. He talked to the New York Giants, Chicago Bears and Indianapolis Colts last year. First, he accepted the Colts job, but then decided to stay with the Patriots.

The 42-year-old coordinator is working through his eight season with the Patriots. He also has some head-coaching experience, as he led the Denver broncos for a season and a half in the period between 2009 and 2010.

Flores was not given the official defensive coordinator title, Flores did the job and was in charge of the defensive play-calling duties this season. Matt Patricia left the team and took over the Detroit Lions. The 37-year-old former Boston College linebacker talked to the Arizona Cardinals for the empty head-coaching position, and really impressed general manager Steve Keim.

The Green Bay Packers, New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have fired the head coaches. The Jets and Bucs fired Todd Bowles and Dirk Koetter after Sunday’s losses to the Patriots and Atlanta Falcons, respectively.

The Cardinals and Denver Broncos will probably fire Steve Wilks and Vance Joseph. Adam Gase from Miami and Cincinnati’s Marvin Lewis are also making their way out of the team.

So, the NFL is shaken with numerous changes. Where will McDaniels go?
