Report: Julian Edelman Appealing Punishment From NFL

Julian Edelman does not really have much luck when it comes to avoiding fines. The Patriots receiver was fined again after the team’s game against the Buffalo Bills.

Now the receiver is trying to confront the league and avoid this fine. The NFL fined Edelman $63,504 for three unnecessary roughness infractions from the Week 16 game. He was told to pay $10,026, $26,739 and $26,739. One of the fines was given after Edelman signaled for a fair catch on a punt in the first quarter of the game, and then went on blocking Bills safety Siran Neal on the play. The other two fines were issued for illegal crack-back blocks.

After the Patriots’ win over the New York Jets, Edelman said he is planning to appeal the two crack-back plays. When it comes to the unnecessary roughness on the punt return, he said it was just a brain fart. Edelman noted that he is trying to figure out what the NFL wants from him on the couple of infractions.

“Honestly, that’s under appeal so we’ll see how that goes. I don’t know, I guess the game’s changing a little. It’s tough. The fair catch one, I obviously brain farted again against the same team. But the other two, yeah you’ve just got to learn from what they want and adapt. So, that’s what I’m going to try to do to the best of my ability and go from there,” the receiver said.

Edelman had a great game in Week 17, but he came a touchdown short of getting his $500,000 incentive for the 2018 season.

“Oh, that little thing. Sometimes you get it. Sometimes you don’t. I don’t play the game for that. I play the game to try and go out and win championships. Right now, excited for the opportunity our team has,” Edelman said when asked about the incentives.
