Chris Hogan Reveals Why He Was Sitting Away From Patriots Receivers

Chris Hogan’s frustrations over a quiet season seemed to boil over in Sunday’s win over the Buffalo Bills.

Hogan, who played 62 of 75 total snaps, slammed his helmet against the turf after one offensive series and spent much of his time between drives sitting on the defensive side of the bench away from fellow receivers Julian Edelman and Phillip Dorsett, who went over plays with position coach Chad O’Shea.

“Oh, no. That was just my spot, man,” Hogan said, via NESN.com. “Yeah. Just we were doing — the defense was playing well. I had one series where I was sitting over there, so I figured I would continue it, and it worked out pretty well.”

No frustration with the lack of targets?

“Not at all,” Hogan said. “We won. Proud of this team. We had to battle a couple weeks, and a couple frustrating losses, and we came out here and got the job done.”

“I’m just really proud of this team and the way that we fought today. It wasn’t perfect, it never is, but everyone really worked hard and came out here and played a good football game.”

Overall, it was a slow day for the passing game as Tom Brady only completed 13 of his 24 passes for 126 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. Really it was the running game that carried the Patriots to victory as they totaled 273 yards as a team with two touchdowns.

While Hogan didn’t do much as a pass catcher, Patriots coach Belichick did commend his ability for blocking downfield.

“I thought it was good. It was good,” Belichick said. “A lot of those plays were outside plays. I mean, you and me could’ve been playing center and guard on some of those plays. It doesn’t make any difference. The ball was all the way on the edge and it was the receivers that had to do the blocking for C.P. or Phil. There’s plenty of plays we ran inside. I’m saying there were a number of plays where the ball was at the edge so fast that it was really all about the perimeter blocking. Those guys did a good job. Rob and Dwayne were out there some too.”
