Mike Florio Floats Spicy Theory About Rob Gronkowski’s Retirement Plans

Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski was really close to retiring last year, but he “survived” another season with the team. Gronk came back for his ninth season in the league, and we could not ignore the fact that his performance was low. ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio still wonders if the tight end would have retired had the Patriots defeated the Eagles in Super Bowl LII.

Florio talked on WEEI’s Mut and Callahan about Gronk’s retirement.

“I firmly believe (Gronkowski) would’ve retired if the Patriots beat the Eagles in the Super Bowl. Remember that press conference after the Super Bowl where they asked him about those rumors and he said, ‘I don’t know how you found out about that.’ That confirms there’s a that to have found out about. I think he has family members trying to get him to walk away because of concerns over head trauma and he can make a ton of money just being Gronk. I’d be surprised if he’s back next year,” he said.

“I think he’d retire before he’d play somewhere else just because if it’s done, it’s done. Even though he comes off as a doofus at times, some of that is calculated. I think he’s very self-aware and he’ll know that it’s time to move on,” Florio added.

Gronk’s statistics does not look really bright. His numbers are low, and he was injured most of the season. Everyone knows that this was not the tight end we know. His game was sluggish and his performance was low.

The tight end has 45 catches for 658 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games. He had zero catches in the Patriots’ win over the Buffalo Bills.

The only thing that’s left for now is hoping to see Gronk in his true colors. He is a brilliant player, and maybe this is just a phase.
