NBA Icon John Salley Broke His Silence About Carmelo Anthony Joining The Lakers

Former Laker John Salley believes that Carmelo Anthony will join LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in February. Are the Lakers really trying to land the veteran?

Carmelo Anthony is still with the Houston Rockets, but he is also eyeing a new team. The veteran signed a one-year contract in August after he was traded from the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Atlanta Hawks. They released him of course.

The veteran played in ten games with the Rockets, and lost six of them. His future was sealed.

In November, the Rockets released a statement. “The fit we envisioned when Carmelo chose to sign with the Rockets has not materialised, therefore we thought it was best to move on as any other outcome would have been unfair to him.”

But, Salley believes that the Lakers will land Carmelo because LeBron is trying to put an end to the five-year playoff drought and turn the team into championship contenders.

“I know nothing about what they’re doing in the front office in Detroit. I’m looking forward to Carmelo Anthony and others joining LeBron before February 14th. I have nothing to say. But if I could get Carmelo and LeBron on the same squad like the Olympic team, the things that can happen,” he said.

Anthony is a good friend with LeBron, and they won gold at the Olympics for the United States.

When asked if Carmelo could win a title, Salley said, “Yeah. Especially if you come in and you don’t have to play for money, you play because you like playing. Things change. He’s got a lot of days left in him.”

Carmelo averaged 13.4 points, 0.5 assists and 5.4 reboungs in his era with the Rockets.

When asked about the possibility of playing with Melo, LeBron said, “I have no idea to be honest if Carmelo will join the Lakers. That’s not a question to ask me. Right now we have 15 rosters pots right? We don’t even have a roster spot open right now. But that’s not a question for myself.”
