New England Patriots Announce Signing Of Offensive Tackle

The New England Patriots have just added a new member to their family. The signing of offensive tackle Weathersby is the latest move the team made in the regular season.

The Patriots announced the arrival of the offensive tackle in Foxboro. Weathersby will join the practice squad in the aftermath of the Jets snatching Eric Smith off of the squat Tuesday.

Weathersby inked a deal with the Philadelphia Eagles as an undrafted free agent out of LSU last year. He played with the Eagles through the summer, and found his way to the final roster cuts. The team released him in October.

In his three years at LSU, the offensive lineman was active in 31 games with 15 starts at right tackle. He was part of some serious game action as true freshman in 2015 as he played in 12 games. Weathersby started eleven games for the Tigers during his final collegiate season in 2017. He was part of the team confronting the New England Patriots in the preseason and had eleven snaps.

Weathersby is wearing No. 72 for New England. He will play on the same practice squad with tight end Stephen Anderson, quarterback Danny Etling, offensive lineman Cole Croston, linebacker Ufomba Kamalu, cornerback Jomal Wiltz, receiver Damoun Patterson, linebacker Calvin Munson and defensive linemen Frank Herron and Trent Harris.

Smith was added to the Jets’ active roster after former Patriots receiver Richards Matthews was placed on injured reserve. He signed with the practice squad unit in September.

Smith took to Twitter to express his gratitude for the New England Patriots having him.

Thank you New England Patriots for allowing me to learn and grow over these last 15-16 weeks! My decision to part from your organization and loving fan base was not made with malice or any ill intentions, but rather an opportunity to take what I’ve learned and apply it to my future career. I appreciate all on and off the field activities you’ve allowed me to be a part of, and all of the kids you’ve allowed me to impact and hopefully make a difference in their lives.  Best of luck to you all, see you on the other side fasho! Much love.”
