Patriots Bring In Two CFL Players For Free Agency Workouts

Two weeks ago, the New England Patriots added a trio of players to free agency workouts — two of which are coming from the Canadian Football League. Yesterday, the team brought in two more players from the CFL that could potentially be added to the roster after its season is over.

One of them is Canadian born and bred Tevaughn Campbell. He played college football at the University of Regina and was picked in the third round of the 2015 CFL draft by the Calgary Stampeders. After five games, he was traded to the Saskatchewan Roughriders one year later. Then, Campbell joined the Montreal Alouettes with whom he spent the last two seasons — the most productive of his career. As a one-time member of his country’s national rugby sevens team, Campbell would immediately fit in with the Patriots.

The other CFL player is Jordan Williams-Lambert. After going undrafted in 2016, he was picked up as a free agent by the New Orleans Saints. He spent his first season in the NFL on the team’s practice squad but was then placed on injured reserve and subsequently released again. He later went on to join the CFL’s Saskatchewan Roughriders and became their most productive wide receiver in 2018: the 24-year old caught 62 passes for 764 yards and four touchdowns in 2018.

However, none of these players can join the Patriots at any point before the season comes to an end. Both are, however, candidates to receive future contracts and follow the footsteps of former CFL players in New England like defensive linemen Armond Armstead and Jason Vega.
