Patriots Rise Their New Star Of Undrafted Corner

The New England Patriots are doing a really good job in turning undrafted corners into stars. That’s exactly what happened with this corner.

Malcolm Butler was the first of the group, and now it is J.C. Jackson. The Patriots corner has a great chance of becoming the next star in New England. He was given more responsibility in the last period, and in the game against the Vikings, Jackson was a key mile-marker.

“J.C.’s really improved a lot over the course of the year and he’s gotten a lot better. He takes coaching well, he understands what maybe he needs to see or the technique he needs to use or how he can improve what he’s doing, and then he works on it and he gets better at it. He’s done that all year and he continues to do it. He’s got good ball skills, he can catch the ball and he has good hand-eye coordination to get his hands on the ball to break up plays,” head coach Bill Belichick said.

“I’d just say he just continues to improve in our system, in his individual techniques, in his communication with his teammates, understanding situational football and the teams that we play against and how different each team is, how different each receiver is and each quarterback and each offensive coordinator and how it really can change from week-to-week and how you have to move to the current team, the current opponent and play them probably differently than the way you’ve played other teams. That’s part of the learning process that I think all young players, coaches for that matter, we all go through.”

Jackson is also enjoying the support of his Patriots teammates.

“We have fun with J.C. He’s the guy that in practice he makes the one-handed interceptions. We know he’s talented and can play and we’ve got his back. Just to see him out there executing, not just [Sunday], but all week in practice. We had him in some tough situations where we were counting on him to make plays sometimes by himself with no help and he showed up. He had been doing that every time we gave him an opportunity to be out there. It’s like having a little brother out there succeeding each team he comes out there. I love having him out there,” Devin McCourty said.
