Report: Patriots Reveal Stephon Gilmore Suffered Injury

The practices for Patriots’ Week 14 matchup with the Dolphin in Miami are finished and while the team has become pretty healthy this week, they haven’t gone entirely unscathed, according to their final injury report.

In this report, New England cited two players as questionable for the contest – Dwayne Allen due to a knee injury and cornerback Stephon Gilmore for his ankle. Allen was a full participant at practice, while Patrick Chung, who was on the injury report all week, was taken off the list.

Gilmore’s injury couldn’t happen at worse timing. The corner wasn’t listed on Thursday’s injury report with this ailment, so it would seem like he banged up his ankle during Friday’s session, where he was a limited participant. Gilmore has been a star in the Patriots secondary all season as he’s totaled 37 tackles, 15 passes defended, two forced fumbles and two interceptions, which has him firmly in Pro Bowl and All Pro discussions.

Losing such player would not go unnoticed, even if it is for just a game. The Patriots are able to win the AFC East this weekend if they manage to beat or tie the Dolphins down in South Beach, but it’s even more important for New England to keep pace and win so they have a shot at the No. 1 overall seed in the conference as they are one game behind the Chiefs for that title.

While Gilmore’s status is still unknown, the Dolphins have ruled out their star corner Xavien Howard for this contest. This was to be expected as the corner didn’t practice all week and Miami head coach Adam Gase predicted gave grim updates on him throughout the week. This might be a rather big coup for the Patriots passing attack Sunday as Howard picked off Tom Brady twice down in Miami last year. Along with Howard, the Dolphins have ruled out center Jake Brendel due to a knee injury.

Receiver Danny Amendola and center Travis Swanson were both ruled as questionable by Miami after having a limited participation in practice on Friday. According to Adam Gase, Amendola hasn’t been very compliant as he fights to play in this game against his former club and if the continues on that trend, it looks like he’ll suit up in this matchup. In eleven games played for the Dolphins so far this year, Amendola has tallied 48 catches for 469 yards and a touchdown.

Watch the Patriots and Dolphins contest in Hard Rock Stadium at 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS.
