Report: Josh McDaniels Is Enthusiastically Interested In New NFL Job

Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels has been developing an interesting relationship with the Cleveland Browns. The Browns did not really request an interview with him. However, CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora said that the team is interested in McDaniels and may do that in near future.

Sources report that McDaniels is “enthusiastically interested” in going back to Ohio to lead the Browns. Cleveland is interested, too.

“McDaniels is enthusiastically interested in the Cleveland opening. The Browns have used back channels to indicate a mutual preliminary interest, but they have not invited him to an early interview. The Green Bay Packers did, and he said yes. Browns General Manager John Dorsey has been good at cloaking what he is up to, including in the eyes of some obvious candidates. However, indications are that McDaniels is a very serious candidate.”

McDaniels has not denied his interest in head coaching positions in the NFL. He joined the New England Patriots as offensive coordinator in 2012 after his unsuccessful attempt as a head coach of the Broncos. He was also part of the Rams family.

The offensive coordinator went to Canton McKinley High School. McDaniels spent 15 of his 18 seasons with the Patriots. Aside from his brief time with the Broncos, McDaniels was also an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach of the St. Louis Rams in 2011.

McDaniels accepted the head-coaching post with the Indianapolis Colts last off-season. However, he said ‘no’ to the team at the last minute and came back to Foxboro.

Cleveland said goodbye to former head coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley on Oct. 29. That job is carried by interim head coach Gregg Williams, defensive coordinator Blake Williams and offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens. The team was brought to a 5-3 record during the second half of the regular season.
