Devin McCourty Makes Surprise of A Lifetime By Giving Away Two Super Bowl LIII Tickets

Patriots captain Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee and Devin McCourty surprised Brunel Etienne Jr.

Devin McCourty had the honor to be the Patriots Walter Payton Man of the Year nominee, and he and the 31 other nominees got a pair of tickets to watch this year’s Super Bowl. They had the opportunity to give the tickets  to anyone that they see fit. For Devin, it was a piece of cake.

Devin was introduced to Brunel, a patient diagnosed with sickle cell. The Patriot also got the chance to meet Brunel’s mom, Esther Augustin. They become really good friends. Devin knew that his friend was dealing with such a terrible disease, and he knew that Brunel needed to be surprised.

“I was like, ‘Man, Brunel would love these tickets.’ Just thinking of it and thinking about the different things he’s been through, but he’s always a Patriot. Like he said, he’ll text me after games we win, text me after games we lose, [saying], “Just keep your head up. It’ll be alright. We’ll get them next week.” He’s just been a good friend and happy that I could supply two tickets to the Super Bowl. Hopefully we’ll be playing there too,” Devin said.

“It’s amazing. He’s been there for me a lot. Like every time he plays a game, I watch his games and everything. Win or lose, I’m a Patriots fan for life,” Brunel said.

It is always nice to see someone care for those in need. Patriots players are known for their great gestures, and that’s what makes them great people. We know that there are so many people in this world who need someone to take care of them, and Devin did the right thing. Let’s hope that other athletes will follow his example. This world needs more people like Devin McCourty.
