Josh McDaniels Releases Groundbreaking Statement About Patriots, Coaching Speculation

Josh McDaniels is staying with the New England Patriots. This put an end to the coaching speculation for good.

During his conference call on Tuesday, McDaniels got a question about the head coaching interview with the Green Bay Packers over the weekend. He talked about the coaching speculations and the possibility that he leaves Foxboro.

“The book is closed. It’s always a humbling experience to have an opportunity to interview for any position and I am grateful to speak with Green Bay and I’ve appreciated every single one. I’m focused on the Chargers and our season, finishing strong and I’ll be here moving forward,” the offensive coordinator said.

This came after the Packers signed a contract with former Titans OC Matt LaFleur to a four-year contract. This contract also gives him an option to become the Packers next head coach and work with Aaron Rodgers. This was the only team McDaniels applied for during the Patriots’ bye week. The Cleveland Browns were also mentioned in the talks, and it seems like they were ready to take McDaniels. Steve Doerschuk of CantonRep.com said that McDaniels is interested in signing a contract with the Cleveland Browns. The Browns also said that they used “back channels to indicate mutual preliminary interest,” and that McDaniels is a serious candidate.

When asked if he has spoken to the Browns about the vacant head-coaching spot, the Patriots coordinator said, “No sir, I have had no contact with them.”

That’s what McDaniels said at the moment, but the Patriots will relax at the very same moment the Browns ink a new head coach. McDaniels has already shown that he can change his mind overnight. But, the Patriots should only worry about keeping McDaniels on the field for the playoffs. That’s the only thing that matters at the moment.
