Patriots Place Tight End On IR, Make A Series Of Roster Moves

Jacob Hollister was dealing with a hamstring injury most of the regular season. The team has placed the second-year tight end on injured reserve on Tuesday.

Hollister has a really disappointing season. After his rookie year, the tight end showed great potential as pass catcher, despite the fact that he has had four receptions for 42 yards.

Hollister was seen as a huge player for the 2018 campaign, and was also considered as a viable figure in the passing game. The tight end build a strong connection with quarterback Tom Brady over the summer, but it never made the regular season. The hamstring injury and chest issues put an end to Hollister’s season. He was forced to miss a few points of the year.

Hollister was only able to string three games together. The most he could do was a couple of back-to-back appearances. He finished the year with four catches for 52 yards in the eight games he played in.

The Patriots promoted tight end Stephen Anderson to the active roster. The team also signed defensive back A.J. Howard and offensive lineman Dan Skipper to the practice squad.

Anderson is a mystery for New England. He hit the league as an undrafted free agent out of Cal in 2016. He spent his pro career with the Houston Texans until becoming a member of the Patriots family. In 2017, Anderson was active in 15 games for the Texans and had five starts. He caught 25 of his 52 targets for 342 yards and a single touchdown. In his career, the tight end recorded 36 receptions for 435 yards and a couple of touchdowns.

“He’s done well for us. We use him in a lot of different roles in practice as well. He’s been great. He’s been one of the guys that’s been recognized on multiple weeks for the job he’s done for us, either as a big receiver or as the go-to tight end for the team that we’re playing. Also, in the kicking game. Yeah, he’s done well,” head coach Bill Belichick said of Anderson at the beginning of the year.
