Report: New England Patriots Land High Class Center As Future Option

The regular season is not over yet. Yes, that’s what every Patriots player says, because the team has just locked down a top center for 2019.

The organization signed center Jake Eldrenkamp to a reserve contract Tuesday. Erldrenkamp was undrafted out of the University of Washington in 2017. In his rookie campaign, the center was part of the Los Angeles Rams’ practice squad. In 2018, he was put on the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad.

The 305-pound center was able to run a 5.39-second 40-yard dash at his pro day with a 1.88-second 10-yard split, 26-inch vertical leap, 8-foot, 10-inch broad jump, 4.71-second short shuttle and 7.71 second 2-cone drill.

According to Pro Football Focus, the center had an excellent performance in the preseason when he did not even allow a single pressure in a total of 102 snaps.

The rest of the offense is strong, too

The Patriots have a really strong offensive lineup. Shaq Mason, Isaiah Wynn, Marcus Cannon, David Andrews, Joe Thuney, Ted Karras and James Ferentz are signed through next season, too. Offensive linemen Trent Brown, LaAdria Waddle and Ulrick John will hit free agency in the offseason.

“I mean, you’re always trying to improve. You can always be better, but the more and more we play together each week you’re building on your foundation. I wouldn’t say we are where we want to be, but we’re trusting in the process of going out and working hard each day in practice and trying to improve to see where that brings us,” receiver tight end Julian Edelman said.

“Trying to. That’s the goal, trying to get better each and every week. Because sometimes there are good performances, sometimes they’re bad. Sometimes you just have to be consistent at it, try to have more good than bad. Yeah, because I know my assignment. When I’m confident in what I’m doing, I can go out there and just play,” Sony Michel said.
