NBA Refs Release Major Admission About Wrong Call At End Of Lakers/Thunders Game

LeBron James and his teammates were upset after the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Lonzo Ball was called for a foul in the final seconds of regulation with LA leading Oklahoma City Thunder by three points. Things like this happen really often. However, this was a different thing. Ball was called for a shooting foul despite the fact that he made contact with Russell Westbrook before his shooting motion. It was a wrong call.

Westbrook forced the game to overtime, but the Lakers got the job done after the final buzzer. Now referees admitted it was a wrong call. They said the call should not have led to any free throws.

Afterward, referee Tom Washington explained the call to a pool reporter.

“The official called the foul because at the time he thought Russell had started his shooting motion and he was clearly behind the 3-point line and there was illegal contact by Ball,” Washington said.

“There is not a trigger to review whether or not there is a foul prior to or on the shot,” Washington told the pool reporter. “The trigger would be whether or not it is a 3-point shot or not. And upon being able to see the review of the play, we realized that the illegal contact actually happened prior to his upward motion, so it should have been a side-out.”

This mistake had nothing to do with the Lakers win as they deserved every bit of it. The Thunder did not even dream of such outcome because the Lakers played without LeBron James. It turns out the Lakers played really well in that game. Who knows, maybe they will be able to put up with the pressure and win more games before LeBron James returns to the floor. Good luck, guys!
