What Josh McDaniels Told Brady Before Game-Winning Drive

Tom Brady did magic during the AFC Championship game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Well, he has been doing that for nineteen years. Sunday’s game was brought to overtime, and New England won the coin toss that gave them a chance to drive down the field and win the match. Before the game-winning drive, Brady talked to offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.

“I looked at Josh and I said, ‘You got any touchdown plays on that call sheet still?” He said, ‘Yes, I do,” Brady told CBS’ Jim Nantz of his lively conversation with McDaniels during the Lamar Hunt trophy presentation.

The conversation with McDaniels was followed by a TD

After this conversation, Brady and his teammates marched 75 yards down the field on 13 plays and scored a touchdown from inside the five-yard line.

“To the Super Bowl? It hasn’t,” Brady said when asked if he has realized that he is playing the Super Bowl again. “It is hard to imagine. Yeah, it is a great feeling. I think we have overcome a lot this year. Down but not out, and we found a way to play our best the last four games – Buffalo, Jets, had the bye, played great against the Chargers and played really well today. We are going to need one more great game. That was a great way to end it. I was probably as excited as I have been in a long time. A lot of things, one play here or one play there could change everything, but that is football. I am just proud of our team.”

When asked about the things that keep him calm and focused during tense plays, Brady said, “Part of playing sports is just staying in the moment. We always say one play at a time and you can’t make up for things that happen in the past. You just have to think about what you are going to do moving forward. Start of the fourth quarter, they scored. We are up three to start the fourth quarter. What a great opportunity to be against this team and to be ahead three in the fourth quarter with a chance to win is pretty sweet. They blew so many teams out this year. It is just a great opportunity for us, and we took advantage of it.”
